Educational Institutions adopt Curricula from Business Start-Up Centre Kosovo – www.bsckosovo.org

Business Start-Up Centre Kosovo provides support to the University of Prishtina-Faculty of Economics and Business School Peja for curriculum development, entrepreneurial learning and improvement of teaching methodologies.

As a result of a series of efforts towards helping educational institutions, The Business Start-Up Centre Kosovo, in the course of its program held two Curriculum Development Workshops (CDW) in January and June 2008. The main aim of these workshops was to further improve entrepreneurship curricula and entrepreneurial learning capacities in higher educational institutions.

The impact of the January workshop was to support entrepreneurship in curricula development at University of Prishtina, Faculty of Economics and Business School Peja. Out of 19 modules developed by BSCK, 10 potential modules were selected for inclusion into the curricula of respective faculties. Two BSCK modules were adopted into curricula of Faculty of Economics and approved by Faculty Council and University Senate. These modules include Business Communication and Business Environment.

Another unique element of this curriculum is the adaption of new teaching methodologies by University of Prishtina . Several teaching methods have been applied as results of first Curriculum Development Workshop in Istog and these modern teaching methodologies were added to the entrepreneurial teaching at University of Prishtina. Some of these methodologies include the use of more case studies, guest lecturers and video presentations.

Furthermore, Business School Peja agreed on adapting three modules from BSCK. The Project Management, Entrepreneurship and Business Communication modules were to be included into existing curricula. BSCK provided help to Business School Peja on improving teaching methodologies by using a mix of methods such as real world examples, company visits, guest lectures etc. BSCK also offered its technical assistance in implementing this action plan by providing BSCK materials and books.

Following the success of the first Curriculum Development Workshop, in June 2008, Business Start-Up Centre in cooperation with Faculty of Economics in Prishtina and Business School Peja organized the second Curriculum Development Workshop. This workshop extended and strengthened entrepreneurial learning within universities through wider participation, including regional universities. The regional partners in this workshop include representatives of University of Osijek-Croatia and University of Bitola-Macedonia. In addition, this workshop has brought the participation of students or so called voice-of the costumer in order to have the big picture when designing curricula. At the end of workshop the participants agreed to continue communication and advocate for funding for supporting study visits and other projects which are thought to support this regional cooperation aimed at promoting entrepreneurship in curricula development.

The Business Start-Up Centre Kosovo will continue to explore new opportunities in curriculum development and assist higher educational institutions as much as possible.
